In today’s world, human beings are being bought and sold, at an alarming rate, for organ donations, forced labour and prostitution. To quote Pope Francis “Human Trafficking is a crime against humanity. We must unite our efforts to free victims and stop this crime that’s become ever more aggressive, that threatens not just individuals, but the foundational values of society.” Thus the need to educate our public and call them to action on behalf of those caught in this oppression.
In December 2014 a new law called the Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act (PCEPA) was created in Canada Bill C-36. It recognizes the prostituted persons as true victims who are often times trafficked. The law addresses the demand side of buying a person for sexual services by holding the buyers and profiteers accountable for their actions. When the law was created, it was with the caveat that it could be reviewed within 5 years to check for its effectiveness. Now is the time to act. For more information visit this LINK .
