JUBILEE 2025

In the Diocese of Kamloops, we will commence the Holy Year on the feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph on December 29, 2024 with a special liturgy at 1:30 PM followed by Holy Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral. The Jubilee Year will conclude with another special liturgy on December 28, 2025. This sacred time offers a profound opportunity to deepen our faith through two central elements of the Jubilee: pilgrimage and the Holy Door. These spiritual practices invite us to draw closer to God, renewing our hearts in His grace.

Jubilee 2025 – Pilgrims of Hope

December 29, 2024 marked the beginning of the Jubilee Year 2025.  Bishop Joseph shared more about the theme, ‘Pilgrims of Hope’, in his homily at this opening Mass.

“This sacred time calls us to embrace life as a shared journey-trusting in God’s promises and growing in faith and hope.  Like a pilgrimage, life challenges and transforms us, reminding us that through Christ’s light, we can overcome struggles and look forward to eternal life with God.”

Celebrating the Holy Year 2025 and the 80th Anniversary of Our Diocese

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

With heartfelt joy and gratitude, we prepare to celebrate two significant milestones in the coming year: the Holy Year 2025, with its inspiring theme, “Pilgrims of Hope,” and the 80th Anniversary of our Diocese, guided by the theme, “Looking Back with Gratitude and Looking Forward with Hope.”

The Holy Year invites us to embrace our journey of faith as pilgrims of hope, deepening our relationship with Christ and radiating His love in our daily lives. Simultaneously, the 80th Anniversary of our Diocese calls us to reflect on the rich legacy of faith, dedication, and sacrifice of those who built the foundation of our vibrant and devoted community.

These dual celebrations offer us a sacred opportunity for spiritual renewal. They inspire us to recommit ourselves to our faith, bear witness to Christ’s light, and actively engage in the Church’s mission in today’s world. As one diocesan family, we will unite in prayer, beginning December 28, 2024, and continuing through December 29, 2025, using a special prayer I have prepared for this journey.

To mark these momentous occasions, our Diocesan Anniversary Committee has planned several meaningful events:

  • Visitation of the Relics of Canadian Saints: St. Jean de Brébeuf and St. Kateri Tekakwitha at Sacred Heart Cathedral on Friday, January 17, 2025.

  • Solemn High Mass on Corpus Christi Sunday: June 22, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Riverside Park, followed by a Eucharistic procession to Sacred Heart Cathedral for Benediction. The day will conclude with a communal BBQ dinner at St. Ann’s Academy, fostering fellowship and joyful celebration.

  • Mission Talk – “Pilgrims of Hope”: Presented by Father Leo Patalinghug, a renowned missionary and chef from Baltimore, USA, from October 9 to 11, 2025.

  • Youth Rally in Kamloops: Featuring Father Leo Patalinghug, Saturday, October 11, 2025.

Further details will be shared as these significant moments approach. I warmly encourage each of you to participate in these spiritual and communal events. Together, let us honor our past, celebrate our present, and look forward with faith and hope as a united family in Christ.

May the Immaculate Heart of Mary and St. John Vianney, patrons of our Diocese, intercede for us as we embark on this sacred journey.

With prayerful hope and gratitude,
