Dear Clergy, Religious, and Faithful of the Diocese of Kamloops,
As we joyfully mark the 80th anniversary of our Diocese in this Jubilee Year, a time of grace, gratitude, and renewal, we are further uplifted by the joyous news of the election of our new Holy Father.
While returning from Ottawa yesterday, I learned mid-journey that white smoke had risen from the Sistine Chapel: Habemus Papam! Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost has been elected as Pope Leo XIV. Once again, the Holy Spirit reminds us of God’s providence and perfect timing, raising up a shepherd to lead His Church with the heart of Christ.
With love and obedience, the Diocese of Kamloops offers Pope Leo XIV our warmest congratulations and prayers. As the Successor of Peter, he is a sign of unity and a sure guide for our pilgrim Church. We joyfully entrust ourselves to his pastoral care.
In his first address, Pope Leo XIV called us to unity and courage, inviting us to move forward "hand in hand with God and with one another... in peace." His words beautifully echo the spirit of our Jubilee Year, one of gratitude, courage, and hope.
As we give thanks for 80 grace-filled years and rejoice in this new beginning for the Church, may we walk together without fear, united in faith, love, and mission under the care of Christ and our new Holy Father.
Sincerely in Christ,
Joseph Phuong Nguyen
Bishop of Kamloops
